Alex de Minaur has become the first Australian man in 20 years to reach the last eight of the French Open after producing a brilliant performance to defeat Karen Khachanov in straight sets on Sunday.
The 23-year-old, who had never previously progressed beyond the second round at Roland Garros, was in stunning form as he dispatched the 25th seed 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in two hours and 45 minutes.
De Minaur is the first Australian man to reach the French Open quarter-finals since Lleyton Hewitt in 2005, and the first to reach the last eight at a Grand Slam since Hewitt at the 2005 Australian Open.
The Sydneysider will now face either Rafael Nadal or Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals.
