JuJu Smith-Schuster Released by New England Patriots

Former Pro Bowler Cut After Short Stint

Smith-Schuster Signs with New England

John "JuJu" Smith-Schuster, an American football wide receiver, was released by the New England Patriots on Friday. Smith-Schuster, who was acquired by the Patriots in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers in October, had struggled to make an impact with his new team. In six games with the Patriots, Smith-Schuster caught just 12 passes for 156 yards and no touchdowns. He was also inactive for one game due to injury.

Trade for Smith-Schuster

The Patriots traded a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to the Steelers for Smith-Schuster, who had been a Pro Bowler in each of the previous three seasons. However, Smith-Schuster's production declined in 2022, and he was ultimately released by the Steelers.

Release from Patriots

Smith-Schuster's release by the Patriots was not a surprise, as he had failed to live up to expectations in New England. The Patriots are now expected to turn to other receivers, such as Kendrick Bourne and Jakobi Meyers, to fill the void left by Smith-Schuster's departure. The release of Smith-Schuster is a reminder of the harsh realities of professional sports. Even players who have achieved great success can find themselves out of a job if they are not performing at a high level. Smith-Schuster will now have to find a new team if he wants to continue his NFL career.
